Young Talents -III exhibition started its Turkey tour

What is Young Talents? 'Young Talents in Turkish Photography' is a project open to all photographers under 35 who are willing to submit a thematic portfolio of their own. It serves to bring the work of young photographers who have not yet had the chance to establish themselves in the field and want their voice to be heard, to the attention of all photography enthusiastics. Not based on a competitive ground, the project aims to encourage theme based work by photographers and to introduce new names to Turkish photography.

What happened up to date? When the project took off in late 2000, our purpose was to act as an initiative and create a platform through which young photographers could exhibit their work. Among the 112 portfolios submitted, 7 were chosen and published in an issue of Geniş Açı mainly devoted to 'Young Talents' in November 2001.

In 2004, with Photography Center Istanbul's willingness to open their space to young talents, announcements for the 2nd edition of 'Young Talents' were made. 18 portfolios chosen among the 101 portfolios submitted were both exhibited at Photography Center Istanbul and published in the first bilingual special edition of Geniş Açı. The exhibition traveled to many cities.

What is happening this time? For the 3rd edition of 'Young Talents', 108 portfolios were submitted. 8 photographers were chosen to be the new 'Young Talents' along with 9 names whose portfolios were found remarkable. The photographs are exhibited first at Photography Center Istanbul and are going travel along Turkey in the following months.

What will happen from now on? Our aim is to exhibit a selection of 'Young Talents' from the 3 editions, at various photography festivals. This way, the voice of young Turkish photography will slowly find itself a place in the international arena and getting feedback from international agents will unquestionably make the process more worthwhile.
